actually, the 5250 will almost definitely be powering the SGS3.

Exynos 4210, aka Orion, was said to be scheduled for 1H 2011 mass production when the announcement came in late 2010. All was revealed in MWC when the SGSII was unveiled. It was later rolled out worldwide by June/July, exactly on schedule.

The same thing is happening here. Announcement coming in late-2011, with the SGS3 as the release vehicle in Q2 2012.

Now, you might be thinking, what about the 4212 and the 4412? Sadly I cannot answer this. However I want to make clear that the 5250, with dual-A15s will certainly perform better than quad-A9s. Samsung knows this. Being Sammy's flagship, the SGS3 will never be forced to settle for an inferior SoC, especially since OMAP 5 and NovaThor will be shipping by then.

One will also note that the 4412 was never officially announced - and never will. It has no reason to exist. My theory is that the 4212 will go into a second-place Galaxy R II device.

Lastly I advise Phonearena to do a little more research before publishing silly speculation in future articles.

4. Hunt3rj2 posted on 2 hours ago 1 0

If the SGS3 is released with a 1.8 GHz quad-core Cortex A9, HTC and Motorola will undoubtedly destroy Samsung and be laughing all the way to the bank.

Unfortunately Samsung's Galaxy S is their crown jewel, and since they can make a massive amount of hardware in house, from SoC to RAM and flash NAND, it'll probably have a dual core Cortex A15 and postively destroy any Cortex A9 SoC and also probably edge out the Snapdragon S4.

6. wsker posted on 2 hours ago 2 7

Dual-core = FAIL.
Samsung has to be on the top by lifting up to quads ;),

Quad-core = Me buying it :)

Why don't you just strap on an AMD hexacore processor on the back - it will have much the same effect - a high priced handwarmer.

no matter how superior these galaxy s phones are than others, i still wont buy any samsung products.. they have great specs and at the same time poorest quality..

I really hope its not 4.6 inches! These phones are getting massive! It would be nice if it had a 4.6 option and a 4.0 option. Hipsters don't get iPhones because they're trendy, they get them because they're the only phones small enough to fit in their skinny jeans.

13. Martine posted on 1 hour ago 3 1

Actually, Sammy got a well proven 12MP phone well before any manufacturer and Nokia N8 with its "Tiny Sensor" still remains the best Camera phone today.
So what are you gonna say now?

14. warlockz posted on 1 hour ago 1 1

Wonder when it will have a state wide release, prob when the sg4 gets announced, ridiculous.

Here we go again...more waiting and hype--just like the Nexus on Verizon with so many problems. Signal, battery, no hdmi, no external sd, no swype, 5.0 camera, multi-touch issues..As I've already said long ago..Samsung does not build a good phone! Yes, a beautiful, gorgeous display and that's about it. Samsung did not build any great feature phones--so they jumped on the road to smartphones---I know you all remember--The Rogue, The Glyde, The Omnia 1 and 2--just to name a few---catch my drift--what was great about those phones---Resets, multi-touch issues, signal issues ALL on previous phones ...I say they fix what they have on the market instead of launching all of these new series of phones!

23. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 19 min ago 1 1

I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus & the signal issue is nonexistent. They are going to release an update to the software just so it shows more bars that is it. The signal for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is one of the better ones for their whole 4G LTE line up. The battery issue is also nonexistent. It lasts about the same or even better than other 4G LTE phones. It kills my HTC Evo 3D 4G WiMAX by a long shot.

I can go on but there is no reason for it. Every phone sold always has issues. There is no phone that you can buy & not do an immediate update to fix any quirky bugs. Tech moves very very fasts & it's just the nature of the beast.

To go as far & say Samsung doesn't make a good phone is silly at best. Samsung would not have sold so many Galaxy S, Galaxy S II & whatever other phones they sell if they were not good devices. Over 30 million is no coincidence, it?s proof of a superior product.

A company who doesn't make good devices is LG. LG consistently makes subpar devices & the sales prove that. They don't sell well in the whole world, not just the U.S. So my point is that the masses do recognize poor products & good products. LG makes poor products thus it's poor sales.

Samsung indeed makes good products thus its great sales. I mean the facts are there. Samsung DOES make good products & there are numbers to back that up. Unless you think that over 30 million people are fooled into buying what you say are bad or not good products, you really can?t refute that Samsung does have great devices. Look at all the ratings they have received throughout the industry, they all have been stellar.

Campaign ads go negative in Iowa as Romney, Gingrich, Ron Paul mix it up (VIDEO)

Campaign ads bombard Iowa, as the Republican candidates and their surrogates step up efforts to raise doubts among caucus-goers about their rivals. In some ads, that means going negative.

Mitt Romney doesn't like Newt Gingrich. Ron Paul doesn't like Mitt Romney. And Mr. Gingrich has little love for either one of them.

At least that's the impression coming through from TV ads and candidates' responses, as the clock ticks closer to the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses.?

Some of the ads are positive. Some go after the candidate of the opposing party, President Obama. But as the race for Iowa draws to a finish, with no clear winner in view, the campaigners have stepped up efforts to raise voter doubts about their rivals for the Republican nomination.

Some of the mud-slinging is being done by surrogates, the so-called "super PACs" (political action committees) that can draw unlimited amounts of money from donors.

A super PAC working on Mr. Romney's behalf, Restore Our Future, is airing ads that say former House Speaker Gingrich has "too much baggage" to beat Mr. Obama. Romney and his allies have oodles of money to spend on the effort.

In response, a Gingrich-supporting group is broadcasting spots that say Republicans are "attacking him with falsehoods," and Gingrich has personally urged Romney to be "man enough" to rein in his super PAC supporters.

The pro-Gingrich group, Winning Our Future, warns Iowans not to let "the liberal Republican establishment pick our candidate."

Haven't heard of the "liberal Republican establishment" before? From the context, it seems safe to say the ad means Romney backers who come from the corporate world and who aren't perceived as pure conservatives on issues such as abortion, gun rights, or a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

For his part, Romney has said campaigns are partly in the business of drawing distinctions among candidates. He has wondered aloud if Gingrich can "handle the heat in this little kitchen," which will only get hotter in a general-election campaign.

Rep. Ron Paul of Texas has mounted attacks of his own, which could grow louder on the airwaves as he sets his sights on a potential first-place finish in Iowa.

Video: UFC 141's Brock Lesnar grateful for health, determined to face Junior Dos Santos

by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Dec 28, 2011 at 12:59 am ET

LAS VEGAS ? When Brock Lesnar (5-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) walks into a room, his hulking frame and often-brooding demeanor make it easy to forget he's recently had two battles with life-threatening illness.

But as his pending UFC 141 clash with former Strikeforce champ Alistair Overeem (35-11 MMA, 0-0 UFC) draws near, Lesnar says he realizes how fortunate he is to be just one win away from another shot at the UFC heavyweight crown.

On Tuesday, at an open workout session at "The Ultimate Fighter" gym in Las Vegas, Lesnar talked about his climb back to the top and why he envisions himself victorious on Friday night.

"I feel the greatest I've felt in a long time, and I've actually just sat and just pondered about how good I feel and how fortunate I am just to be back here," Lesnar told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "May 27 of this year, I had 12 inches of my colon removed. I don't even know how many months has gone by, and here I am in a pretty big fight. I don't need any Christmas presents. That's my Christmas present: just to be healthy and be back in the octagon."

Of course, just being in the octagon isn't enough for the self-admitted competition junkie. Lesnar wants to down Overeem and earn a shot at current champion Junior Dos Santos.

Check out the embedded video to see Lesnar's conversation with the media, in which he discusses his? good fortune, his thoughts on Overeem as an opponent and why his wrestling will ultimately prevail in the main event of UFC 141 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Stocks barely changed in light holiday trading (AP)

NEW YORK ? Stocks ended barely changed in light trading Tuesday amid mixed economic news. Consumer confidence surged to an eight-month high, but home prices dropped in major cities. Sears plummeted after reporting that it would close more than 100 stores around the country.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed down just 2 points after staying in a narrow range all day. The S&P 500 index and Nasdaq eked out small gains.

In the latest sign of a bumpy recovery in the housing market, home prices fell in 19 of the 20 cities tracked by the Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller index. Atlanta, Detroit and Minneapolis posted the biggest declines. Prices in Atlanta and Las Vegas fell to their lowest points since the housing crisis began.

That report dampened investors' enthusiasm about a jump in consumer confidence to the highest level since April. The New York-based Conference Board reported that its Consumer Confidence Index rose almost 10 points to 64.5 in December. Economists watch the numbers closely because consumer spending accounts for about 70 percent of U.S. economic activity.

Henry Herrmann, chief executive officer at the investment management firm Waddell & Reed, said the increase reflected the fact that more jobs have been created in recent weeks, which will likely lead to "a more sustained" economic recovery.

"If job creation will come with wage improvement in the coming weeks, it will boost confidence further," Herrmann said.

The Dow Jones lost 2.65 points, or 0.02 percent, to close at 12,291.35. The S&P 500 was up 0.10 points, or 0.01 percent, to 1,265.43. The Nasdaq composite rose 6.56, or 0.3 percent, to 2,625.20.

The most the Dow rose during the day was 34 points, and the most it fell was 24. It was the narrowest trading range in 5 months. Stocks are expected to trade within a narrow range all this week as trading remains light between the Christmas holiday and New Year's. The volume of shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange Tuesday was 2 billion, less than half the average daily volume this month.

Sears Holding Corp. plunged 27 percent to $33.38, the most in the S&P 500. The retailer warned it would close between 100 and 120 Sears and Kmart stores following poor sales during the holidays, the most crucial time of year for retailers.

The Sears news also dragged Whirlpool Corp. down 9 percent to $46.62. Investors worried the store closings would hurt sales of Whirlpool and Maytag washers and dryers the company makes.

A run of strong economic data in the U.S. has boosted the stock market in recent days. However analysts expect any gains to be tempered by worries over the European debt crisis.

Italy's borrowing costs rose Tuesday, reflecting a continued high level of investor anxiety. The yield on the country's ten-year bonds hit 7 percent again, which is considered unsustainable in the long run. Greece, Ireland and Portugal had to seek relief from their lenders after their own borrowing costs rose that high.

Italy is the euro zone's third-largest economy and is considered too big to get bailed out by its neighbors. Mario Monti, the country's new premier, got parliamentary approval last week for a big austerity package that is intended to save the country from financial disaster.

Markets have grown increasingly fearful over the past few months that Italy will find it difficult to pay off its massive debts, which stand at around $2.5 trillion.

In other corporate news:

? Computer Sciences Corp. fell 9 percent after warning that it will write down the value of an investment by about $1.5 billion.

? U.S. oil and gas explorer Endeavour International Corp. rose 24 percent after the company announced an agreement to buy ConocoPhillips' interest in three U.K. oil fields in the Central North Sea for $330 million.

? International Game Technology shares gained 5 percent following news that some states might be closer to permitting online gambling.

ENERGY: State panel to revisit Gorge wind farm proposal

Two months after it recommended scaling back the project, Washington?s Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council on Tuesday will weigh in for a final time on a proposed wind farm near the Columbia River Gorge in Skamania County.

EFSEC members met last week for an update on the Whistling Ridge Energy Project. They?ll convene again at 10 a.m. Tuesday for a special meeting to consider numerous legal arguments and responses filed since October. The council is then scheduled to cast its final vote on the matter.

?The EFSEC process ends on the 27th,? said EFSEC manager Al Wright. ?Then it?s up to the governor.?

Wright stressed that the council?s vote is only a recommendation. The project?s fate ultimately rests with Gov. Chris Gregoire, who will have 60 days to make her decision once EFSEC gives its final recommendation.

On Oct. 6, EFSEC called for a scaled-back version of the project that would reduce the number of wind turbines from 50 to 35 ? largely to protect views in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The decision drew objections from both project developer Whistling Ridge Energy and opponents, though for very different reasons.

In a legal petition asking for reconsideration, Whistling Ridge argued that eliminating 15 turbines from the proposal effectively ?kills the project.?

The farm wouldn?t be economically viable in a scaled-back form, the petition argued. It also wouldn?t be feasible to simply squeeze larger turbines into the project area and reach the original intended capacity of 75 megawatts, the developer said.

Whistling Ridge officials urged the council to reconsider the decision based on what they called a ?subjective? reason.

A Skamania and Klickitat county economic development organization also sided with Whistling Ridge, citing the economic boost and tax revenue that could come from the project.

Impact on wildlife

Three advocacy groups ? Save Our Scenic Area, Friends of the Columbia River Gorge, and the Seattle Audubon Society ? took the opposite stance. They argued in petitions that the council?s decision didn?t go far enough, with some calling for a denial of the entire project. In addition to obstructed views, environmental advocates have pointed to the potential impact on wildlife habitat as a major reason to reconsider.

The project area is located just north of the Gorge scenic area boundary, near the city of Underwood. Developers filed the application in 2009.

Tuesday?s EFSEC meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the state Utilities and Transportation Commission Building, 1300 S. Evergreen Park Drive in Olympia. Anyone can attend, but the council won?t accept public comments.

Energy Northwest and four southwest Washington utilities have canceled the Radar Ridge wind power project, which had been proposed as the first major wind farm in Western Washington.

Energy Northwest of Richland announced the decision Wednesday at a board meeting in Portland. About $4 million had been spent on the proposed project since 2007, about half of that from Energy Northwest.

OLYMPIA -- Power generated by Northwest wind turbines will likely double in the next two years, but some energy officials are worried the negative effects have not been properly assessed and understood.

The number of wind turbines in the state, such as those dotting the horizon of the Horse Heaven Hills south of Kennewick to Walla Walla, has boomed in the past seven years, with 2,100 now in operation, according to the Northwest Power and Conservation Council.

Sunshine and wind are two things we know well in the Tri-Cities and beyond. My own back yard is a perpetual vortex of breezy fun to the point that it almost seems silly not to harness it for something useful. But I recently learned that when we are talking about building renewable energy generation capacity, it is not quite as simple as, "If you build it, they will come."

In fact, according to renewable energy expert and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory researcher John DeSteese, there are several criteria that make a piece of property suitable for this kind of development. DeSteese and his team recently completed an assessment regarding the use of specific land for renewable power generation through PNNL's Technology Assistance Program.

The program provides small businesses with up to a week of researcher time for free help with specific technical questions or challenges. This particular project focused on wind and solar power generation.

Linaro member boards get accelerated builds of Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Remember Linaro? How could you forget, right? The non-profit engineering organization that formed back at Computex 2010 has been plugging away for over 1.5 years now, and its most recent development involves everyone's fav-o-rite build of Android: Ice Cream Sandwich. The company has just released ICS builds supporting accelerated graphics on two of its member's low cost development boards: the Samsung Origen and ST-Ericsson Snowball. The outfit already displayed videos of Android 4.0.1 running on TI's PandaBoard and Freescale's i.MX53, and the accelerated graphics support that has been made available today makes use of the ARM Mali-400 processor. For those unaware, developers are able to create optimized Linux-based devices with the support of Linaro, and if you're in one of those member groups, you'll also enjoy DS-5 with Gator and libjpeg-turbo support. Head on past the break for a smattering of videos.
